SOUTH BREWSTER COUNTY—Whitson Chile Products of Terlingua has unveiled its latest piquant condiment—Whitson’s Fire Dog Spicy Relish. In flavor, it is related to Whitson’s best-selling Terlingua Sweet Hots pickles.
Whitson’s owner, Sarah Whitson Bourbon, introduced the relish last month at the North Texas Fair and Rodeo in Denton, her home town and the place her grandfather, W.P. Whitson, formed the Whitson Food Products company in the 1930s. The fair-going public ate it up, as did Whitson’s retailers in North Texas.
Fire Dog is both sweet and spicy and is the perfect complement for a hot dog or hamburger. Try it in tuna or chicken salad and as a delightful addition to deviled eggs.
Fire Dog Spicy Relish is available in Alpine at Morrison True Value, Front Street Books, Porter’s Thriftway on N. 5th St. In South Brewster County look for it at Cottonwood General Store, Big Bend Resorts and Adventures, Terlingua Trading Company, at the Lajitas Mercantile. Or you can order from www.whitsonschile.com.
