SOUTH BREWSTER COUNTY—The Dallas Morning News today published a gift guide of “Sweet and savory gifts from Dallas-area shops.” One of only five items listed is Whitson’s Moist Chili Seasoning, which is available from Central Market stores in Dallas and Plano, and also from their locations in Fort Worth and Southlake in North Texas.
The item reads,
“Chili shortcut: Leave it to the chili cook-off capital of the world to come up with an amazing, almost instant chili. Whitson's Moist Chili Seasoning from Terlingua turns 2 ½ pounds of ground meat into a pot of chili so redolent and tasty, people will think you slaved and simmered all day. Only, it's ready in about 15 minutes. It calls for the meat (you could use chili ground), bouillon cubes and a thickener, such as a flour or masa. I used grass-fed beef and beef bouillon for rich beefiness. I halved the recipe, which is easy to do. Serve it straight with toppings or on buns for a chili sloppy Joe. It's $6.29 for 4 ounces at Central Market; www.whitsonschile.com.”
Since the article appeared Central Market stores have been flooded with requests for the seasoning and orders to the company web site have soared. Happy Holidays, indeed!
