SOUTH BREWSTER COUNTY—The Texas Department of Agriculture has just announced the awarding of a matching grant to allow the company to show at the San Francisco Fancy Food Show next January.
“I am very excited about this opportunity,” says founder Sarah Whitson Bourbon. “We were able to attend the Fancy Food Show held in New York a few years and had wonderful responses. The editor of the AOL Food Page selected Whitson’s as her number one pick for the first day of the three-day event. She told me, ‘You had me when you lifted the lid on your pot of chili.’”
The grant from the Go Texan Partner Program is in the total amount of $5,786 to be split between the program and Whitson’s. Just reserving a booth at the Show, to be held in the Moscone Center, will take more than half of that amount. Also built into the grant is money that goes to help promote the GOTEPP program.
In addition to being available here and in many stores in Big Bend, the chili seasoning can be found at all the Central Market stores and at some Spec’s Liquor and Gourmet locations.
The company’s products have even found their way overseas, to Switzerland, Portugal, and especially Norway. “We are very gratified that Europeans as well as Americans enjoy our products and we are working on developing new items all the time,” says owner Bourbon. “Be on the lookout for a salsa coming soon.
